LOS ANGELES – The UCLA basketball team has earned a No. 4-seed in the NCAA Tournament’s South Region and will face No. 13-seed Tulsa in a second-round game on Friday in San Diego at Viejas Arena.
The Bruins (26-8) secured an automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament on Saturday evening, defeating Arizona, 75-71, in the Pac-12 Tournament’s championship game. Tulsa gained automatic entry to the 68-team field by winning the Conference USA Tournament title on Saturday. The Hurricanes (21-12) defeated Louisiana Tech, 69-60.
This marks the 46th appearance for UCLA in the NCAA Tournament and the Bruins’ third trip to the "Big Dance" in the last four seasons.
The winner of Friday’s game between No. 4-seed UCLA and No. 13-seed Tulsa will face the winner of Friday’s contest featuring No. 5-seed VCU and No. 12-seed Stephen F. Austin.
The Bruins last played in San Diego in NCAA Tournament action in the first and second-round games in 2006, defeating Belmont and Alabama en route to their NCAA runner-up finish in Indianapolis, Ind., that season.
UCLA owns a 3-2 all-time record against Tulsa. The Hurricanes have won the last two meetings in the all-time series, including a 112-102 victory against the Bruins in a first-round contest of the 1994 NCAA Tournament and a 77-76 overtime win in the 1996 season opener as part of the preseason NIT.
