KANSAS CITY, Mo. – UCLA sophomores Jordan Adams andKyle Anderson are among five players who have earned NABC first-team All-District 20 honors, as announced Wednesday by the National Association of Basketball Coaches.
Adams and Anderson secured first-team All-Pac-12 Conference acclaim on Monday before capturing first-team USBWA All-District IX accolades on Tuesday. Adams and Anderson rank first and second, respectively, on UCLA’s team in scoring. Adams has averaged 17.5 points and 5.3 rebounds per game. Anderson has averaged 14.9 points, 8.7 rebounds and a conference-leading 6.6 assists per game.
The duo of talented sophomore guards will help lead UCLA into the Pac-12 Conference Tournament this Thursday, when the second-seeded Bruins (23-8, 12-6) will face either No. 7-seed Oregon (22-8, 10-8) or No. 10-seed Oregon State (16-14, 8-10) in a quarterfinal matchup. Game time at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas is 6:06 p.m. (PT). The tournament begins on Wednesday, but UCLA has earned one of four first-round byes.
Adams has moved into the No. 47 slot on UCLA’s all-time scoring list (1,031 points). The sophomore from Atlanta scored a career-high 31 points in UCLA’s 91-82 win at Washington on March 6 to become the first Bruin to eclipse the 1,000-career-point plateau since Michael Roll achieved that feat in 2010. In addition, Adams became UCLA’s single-season steals leader in that game, moving past previous record-holder Cameron Dollar, who had 82 steals in 1996-97. Adams enters the NCAA Tournament with a conference-leading 85 steals.
Anderson has averaged closer to a triple-double this season than any other player in the nation. The 6-foot-9 guard from Fairview, N.J., leads all Pac-12 players with 15 double-doubles and is the conference’s only competitor to rank in the top five in rebounds (8.7), assists (6.6) and steals (1.7). No player other than Anderson, from one of the BCS conferences, ranks in the top five in those three categories in addition to ranking in the top 15 in scoring.
Joining Adams and Anderson on this year’s All-District 20 team included first-team selections Nick Johnson (Arizona), Justin Cobbs (California) and C.J. Wilcox (Washington). The second-team All-District 20 selections included Dwight Powell (Stanford), Jahii Carson (Arizona State), Delon Wright (Utah), Aaron Gordon (Arizona) and Chasson Randle (Stanford).
