SALT LAKE CITY - The UCLA basketball team lost at No. 10 Utah, 71-39, in a Pac-12 game Sunday afternoon before 10,566 at the Jon M. Huntsman Center.
Tony Parker scored a team-leading 12 points for the Bruins (8-7, 0-2), who lost their fifth consecutive game. The junior from Atlanta was UCLA’s only player to score in double figures.
Utah’s Delon Wright totaled 11 points and Jordan Loveridge had 10 for the Utes (12-2, 2-0). Jakob Poeltl finished with nine points and a game-leading 10 rebounds for Utah.
The Utes maintained the lead from start to finish on Sunday, racing to a 32-15 lead at halftime. Utah opened the game on a 6-0 scoring run, before UCLA answered with five consecutive points. After Utah pushed its margin to 17-5, the Bruins narrowed the gap to 21-15 on a dunk by Kevon Looney at the 6:16 mark.
Utah closed the first half on an 11-0 scoring run and maintained momentum right after halftime. After Parker made a layup to cut Utah’s cushion to 32-17, the Utes used decisive 14-0 run to lead 46-17 at the 14:53 mark.
UCLA finished the game shooting just 28.8 percent from the field (15 for 52), making one of 11 three-point attempts.
The Bruins will return to action against Stanford in Pauley Pavilion on Thursday, Jan. 8. Game time is 6 p.m. (PT). UCLA’s game against Stanford will be televised by ESPN.
