LOS ANGELES - Norman Powell scored a team-leading 24 points and Tony Parker added 20 to lift UCLA past Washington, 88-66, in a Pac-12 game in Pauley Pavilion on Wednesday night.
Powell made 11 of 17 shots and grabbed seven rebounds to help UCLA (17-12, 9-7 Pac-12) keep pace in the upper half of the Pac-12 standings.
Parker finished with at least 20 points for the first time since a loss at Cal on Feb. 7, connecting on 10 of 12 field goal attempts.
Andrew Andrews scored 15 of his team-best 18 points in the second half for Washington (15-12, 4-11), a team that has not won at Pauley Pavilion since Dec. 31, 2010. Andrews had scored a career-high 35 points in a win over Washington State last Sunday evening.
UCLA pushed its home record to 14-1 on Wednesday night and extended its win streak to five games over the Huskies.
The Bruins led from the start, claiming a 6-0 lead in the game’s first 67 seconds. UCLA claimed a 19-5 cushion with 14:07 to play in the opening half. Parker’s dunk at the 6:44 mark in the first half put the Bruins ahead by 18 points (33-15), and UCLA entered the locker room at the break with a 46-25 lead.
Washington never reduced UCLA’s cushion to fewer than 19 points in the second half. After Nigel Williams-Goss hit a jumper at the 18:26 mark to cut UCLA’s lead to 46-27, the Bruins reeled off seven consecutive points to lead 53-27 with 16:39 to play.
UCLA led by as many as 31 points midway through the second half.
Isaac Hamilton finished notched his first career double-double, totaling 16 points and a season-high 10 assists. Bryce Alford scored seven points, grabbed six rebounds and tallied seven assists.
UCLA had not recorded more than 20 assists in any game since logging a season-high 28 versus Nicholls State on Nov. 20 in the team’s third contest of the season. In addition, the Bruins netted at least 10 steals for the seventh time this year.
The Bruins continue their regular-season schedule at home this Sunday, hosting Washington State in Pauley Pavilion at 6:30 p.m. UCLA’s game will be nationally televised on Fox Sports 1.
Game Notes: Norman Powell moved into the No. 34 slot on the program’s all-time scoring list, eclipsing Richard Washington’s 1,245-point total … Powell has now scored 1,251 career points in 134 games … Bryce Alford moved into a tie for 10th-place on UCLA’s single-season three-point field goals list (Reggie Miller also had 69 three-pointers during the 1986-87 season) … with two steals against Washington, Powell moved into 10th-place on UCLA’s career steals list (148) … Powell finished with a career-high 11 field goals, one better than his previous career-high of 10 against James Madison on Nov. 15, 2012.
