The UCLA men's basketball team has earned a No. 11-seed in the NCAA Tournament’s South Region and will face No. 6-seed SMU in a second-round game on Thursday at Louisville's KFC Yum! Center.
UCLA (20-13) will be making its 47th NCAA Tournament appearance, third consecutive and fourth in the last five years, receiving an at-large bid. SMU (26-3) won the American Athletic Conference regular season and tournament titles, gaining automatic entry into the 68-team field.
The winner of Thursday's game between UCLA and SMU will face the winner of Thursday's contest featuring No. 3-seed Iowa State and No. 14-seed UAB.
UCLA owns a 2-0 all-time record against SMU, winning home games on Dec. 8, 1973 (77-60) and on Dec. 28, 1976 (99-71).
The Bruins recorded their 49th 20-win season in program history with a team that returned just one starter - 2015 first-team All-Pac-12 selection Norman Powell - and lost three players to the NBA as first-round draft picks. Powell led the Bruins in scoring with a 16.4 points per game average and also averaged 4.7 rebounds and 1.9 steals per game.
