Sherfield committed to UCLA this morning.
UCLA Bruins basketball is about to kickoff their 2017-2018 season with an exhibition game on Wednesday, but that doesn’t mean that recruiting for the future is on the back burner.
Anytime UCLA can go outside the state of California and pick up top talent, it shows the reach that the program has and is always a positive.
Welcome to Westwood, Grant!
Go Bruins!

2019 guard Grant Sherfield discussed his verbal commitment to UCLA.
Four-star junior guard Grant Sherfield verbally committed to Steve Alford, UCLA on Monday, he told Scout.
"I've been building a relationship with them for about three years now," Sherfield said about his pledge. "I felt like it was the best fit for me offensively, defensively and academically."
Sherfield, a 6-foot-2 guard out of Arlington (Tex.) Mansfield Summit, took an unofficial visit to UCLA's campus on October 21st.
"After I went on the visit a few weeks ago, it just clicked that, that was the place for me," Sherfield said.
Sherfield, who picked UCLA over Wichita State, Alabama and TCU, said UCLA assistant Duane Broussard and Alford were active with their recruitment of him.
"The staff is real down to earth," Sherfield said. "They are great guys. They know the game and they develop players as well."
"They have great basketball minds," he added. "If you watch them sit down and coach, they have great basketball minds."
Sherfield's pledge gives the Bruins two in the class of 2019. Sherfield joins four-star guard LaMelo Ball to make up their current class.
Sherfield is regarded as the No. 9 shooting guard and the No. 54 overall prospect.

UCLA basketball has been bringing in top recruits left and right. In Grant Sherfield, Coach Alford has another top-100 player coming in.
After securing the No. 5 recruiting class in the country for 2017, UCLA basketball has already brought in two top-100 recruits for their 2018 class in Jules Bernard and David Singleton. This is not all that is on the mind of head coach Steve Alford though. With the commitment of 2019 guard Grant Sherfield, Alford has secured his second top-100 recruit in the class of 2019.
In fact, with this commitment, UCLA’s 2019 class is now ranked No. 1 in the nation by 247Sports.
Before receiving the commitment from Sherfield, the class was being held down by LaMelo Ball, the No. 17 ranked recruit in the class. Ball will look to follow in the footsteps of his brothers Lonzo (now playing for the Los Angeles Lakers) and LiAngelo (currently on the UCLA roster) by playing under Coach Alford.
With Sherfield’s commitment coming quite early for the 2019 class, UCLA’s start on this class has gone from very good to absolutely elite. The Bruins have now secured commitments from at least two top-100 recruits in every recruiting class from 2012-2019.
The commitment of Sherfield was broken by Jeff Goodman at ESPN and via Sherfield’s twitter page (see above).
Across several recruiting sites, Sherfield is highly-regarded in this class. By the 247Sports Composite Ranking, the 6’3″ guard comes in at No. 88. He recently visited the UCLA campus on Oct. 21 and clearly walked away with a positive experience. He chose the Bruins over schools such as Kansas, Wichita State, Alabama, TCU, and Stanford (among others).

Over the past several years, UCLA has a reputation of being able to funnel players to the NBA and that trend is expected to continue. With that being said, Sherfield’s future role with the team is dependent on whether or not the players currently on the roster or those in the 2018 recruiting class stay in school or decide to leave to play professionally.
As of right now, Sherfield is a top scorer for his age and should step in right away as an elite bucket-getter. As a sophomore in high school last season, the guard averaged 20.9 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game while splashing 38% of his 3-pointers.
According to Goodman, Sherfield had this to say about his commitment:UCLA Basketball Recruiting: Bruins land 4-star 2019 SG Grant Sherfield (link)
Mike Regalado @ gobruin.com | fansided.comThe UCLA Basketball team got their second commitment for the 2019 recruiting class as 4-star shooting guard Grant Sherfield has committed to the Bruins.
It has been a slow process, but the UCLA Basketball team seems to be picking up speed on the recruiting trail after a sluggish summer. A few weeks ago, the Bruins landed 4-star shooting guard Jules Bernard for their 2018 class and today landed another shooting stud.
The Bruins got some back up at the shooting guard position as 4-star Grant Sherfield (Mansfield Summit HS/Arlington, TX) has committed to the Bruins’2019 recruiting class. According to 247Sports.com, Sherfield is the #3 shooting guard in Texas and in the nation is #4 at his position.
Both of these recruits are the second players to commit to their class. Along with Sherfield, LaMelo Ball, younger brother of former Bruin and current Los Angeles Lakers’ point guard Lonzo Ball, is also set to play for the Bruins in 2019.
Sherfield is a deadly outside shooter. He can hit a shot from almost anywhere on the floor, but it is his skill behind the three-point line that will make him a huge threat for the Bruins. UCLA has run a fast-paced offense the last few seasons, which incorporates the use of outside shots. Last season, Lonzo Ball, Bryce Alford and Isaac Hamilton were essential in this part of the game plan.
With Sherfield in the mix, he will continue to help the Bruins get up and down the floor and play a quick inside-out game. One thing he needs to work on is creating his own shot. He is great when given time to set, but will be even deadlier when he adds shots on the move.
Additionally, Sherfield has good ball control and is not afraid to get to the basket and pull down rebounds. Though he will play a specific role in Westwood, it is always good to have someone like this Texas native who will has different facets to his game that the Bruins can utilize.
Welcome to Westwood, Grant!

The UCLA Bruins and head coach Steve Alford landed a big commitment on Monday as 4-star point guard Grant Sherfield out of Arlington, Texas.
At 6’2″ and 180 pounds, Sherfield won’t be the biggest nor the smallest point guard in the conference by any stretch.
According to Scout, Sherfield is a dynamic, attacking scorer with the ball in his hands — reminiscent of another UCLA alum in Russell Westbrook.
Right now Sherfield is best when attacking off the dribble. He is solid at finishing through contact because of his strength, and then also has the ability to really make things happen in the mid-range. Also Sherfield has the ability to hit shots from deep, though right now he is a bit more comfortable shooting off the dribble as opposed to off the catch.
