UCLA Downs Cal State L.A., 95-57

LOS ANGELES – Isaac Hamilton scored a team-leading 20 points and grabbed eight rebounds to help lead the UCLA basketball team past Cal State L.A., 95-57, in an exhibition game Friday night.
Hamilton was one of five UCLA players to score in double figures. Aaron Holiday finished with 16 points in his first-ever collegiate contest, Tony Parker registered 14 points and Bryce Alford added 13. Jonah Bolden, making his collegiate debut, scored 11 points and grabbed a team-leading 11 rebounds.
Joshua Munzon led Cal State L.A. with 17 points in a game-high 35 minutes.
The Bruins led the visiting Golden Eagles from the start, securing a 12-4 cushion in the first five minutes before extending its advantage to 17 points – 42-25 – with 1:48 to play before the break. UCLA entered the locker room at halftime leading 42-27.
UCLA opened the second half with an 11-0 scoring run over the first four minutes. The Bruins made seven of their first eight shots after halftime and pushed their lead to 60-30 with 14:11 to play.
Bolden, who logged the game’s only double-double, made 4 of 8 shots from the field and was instrumental in helping UCLA outrebound Cal State L.A. by a 60-26 margin. Six Bruins finished the game with at least seven rebounds.
Alex Olesinski, a freshman from Roswell, N.M., tallied nine points and eight rebounds off the bench in 19 minutes, connecting on 3 of 5 shots and making all three free throw attempts.
Holiday, a freshman who graduated last June from nearby Campbell Hall High School, finished with seven rebounds, four assists and a game-high five steals in 27 minutes.
Friday’s contest in Pauley Pavilion, marked UCLA’s only exhibition game before opening the regular season in two weeks.
UCLA will return to action for the regular-season opener against Monmouth in Pauley Pavilion the night of Friday, Nov. 13. Game time is 8 p.m.
UCLA Notes: The Bruins had not faced Cal State L.A. in an exhibition contest since Nov. 9, 2010, when UCLA downed the Golden Eagles, 84-59 … the Bruins will open their regular-season schedule playing six games over a 13-day span, including three consecutive games in the Maui Jim Maui Invitational from Nov. 23-25 … UCLA shot 49.3 percent from the field (35 of 71) and limited Cal State L.A. to 30.2 percent (19 of 63) … playing in their first collegiate games, Aaron HolidayJonah Bolden and Alex Olesinski combined for 36 points and 26 rebounds.
