Evaluation

August, 2009: Zeigler was one of the surprises at this event (Adidas Nations) because of his point guard play in the absence of Brandon Knight (injured). Even though he has shown solid passing ability from the shooting guard position, it was nice to see his adaptability to running a team as a point guard in a tough situation. He has a good looking basketball body; he is a long athlete with some bounce that plays with a nice a pace. He uses ball screens well and showed a nice pull up jumper off the ball screen. He understands how to post a guard and can make a play from the block area for himself or a teammate. He has a nice stroke from the perimeter and was very effective in transition attacking the rim or getting into the paint and finding an open teammate. He showed he could defend a point and using his size and length as a big advantage. He will play off the ball in college, but it was nice to see that he can handle running a team when pressed into duty.

July, 2009: Ziegler was terrific in the open court (LeBron James Skills Academy) as he made plays in the passing lanes that turned into easy fast break baskets. Ziegler made excellent decisions on the break. He made great passes to teammates ahead of him and when the defense approached out of control he got to the rim and finished. Ziegler displayed good court vision and also hit the defensive glass where he is a threat to go coast to coast and finish above the rim. He played with good energy and urgency today. Played well all week, was more aggressive than when I saw him in early spring. Very active on defense especially in the passing lanes where he came up with steals and turned them into scores. Was terrific in the open court as he attacked the rim or hit the open man running ahead. Knocked down open three%u2019s off the catch and finished his slashes to the basket. Capable of scoring in bunches and in a variety of ways.

April, 2009: Zeigler has great size and the ability to score from three off the catch and slash to the rim in transition as well as from the wing in the half court. He also loves to attack the rim along the baseline and has the size and strength to finish in traffic. Zeigler didn%u2019t play as well as I seen him in the past. He was not as aggressive as he was at the Adidas Nations Tournament back in August. He played with urgency but was not in constant attack mode on the offensive end like he has displayed in the past. His talent is clear but he could have dominated the game from a scoring stand point but didn't. Zeigler has a great feel for the game and an excellent basketball IQ but must be willing to show his offensive tools every time he takes the floor.

August, 2008: The son of Central Michigan head coach Ernie Zeigler is a scoring guard with good size and strength. He sprints the wing in transition and is a threat to get to the rim or knock down the spot up three. Zeigler is a good ball handler and decent passer that can drive or slash to the basket both ways. He likes to drive along the baseline and can finish most of the time with a power move to the rim and will attack driving left and spin back right to his floater or pull up jumper in the lane. Zeigler has a nice stroke at the free throw line can shoot the three off the catch when he receives a pass created by penetration on his side off the floor. He should be a better defensive rebounder because of his size but does a good job of working the offensive glass for tip-ins as he sprints in from the perimeter. With continued focus and hard work Zeigler will be an excellent player on the college level.

December, 2007: Trey is a gifted athlete that can play multiple positions and he does it with a high basketball IQ. He's a natural big guard that can score baskets in bunches but is smooth and talented enough to play the point guard position at times as well. He's a good athlete that has the size and skill package to be one of the elite wings in the country over the next two years. His jump shot is solid and I look for it to improve as time goes on. He gets to the basket any time he wants so he rarely settles for jumpers. He's a young talent that could be a special player one day.
