Mesa senior point guard Jahii Carson gave Arizona State basketball coach Herb Sendek a verbal commitment today after taking one more unofficial visit there.
Vanae Carson, Jahii's mom, said that ASU did the best job of recruiting Jahii since Jahii decommitted from Oregon State after his junior season when he averaged 23.5 points and 7.2 assists.
Carson, 5 feet, 11 inches, has a 42-inch vertical leap, also considered Arizona. But UA coach Sean Miller this week got a verbal commitment from combo guard Nick Johnson of Findlay Prep in Las Vegas.
Vanae, who went to ASU, said that Sendek told her and Jahii that Jahii was the only point guard he was recruiting for the class of 2011.
Carson, a member of The Republic's All-Arizona team last season, set Mesa High records last season for scoring and assists.
Carson is friends with current ASU players Carrick Felix, Corey Hawkins and Ty Abbott.
Those players also influenced his decision to stay home.
Vanae said Sendek also assured that he will change his offense to be more uptempo to take advantage of Carson's ballhandling skills and athleticism.
"Jahii has great trust in Coach Sendek," Vanae said.
